That strong Alberta Clipper System is about to hook up and connect with a surface storm system to create a bomb cyclone off the Carolinas coastline. When a cyclone or low-pressure system bombs out that mean that it has rapidly strengthen into a monster storm in a matter of 12 to 24 hours or so. As a result of this and also cold air surging into the Carolinas, a major ice storm event and a major winter storm event is now unfolding as this storm continues to evolve and move into the states. There will be a ton of snow and ice and rain with this storm system for the area. Some areas in northwestern North Carolina could see up to a foot of snow or more with very strong dangerous winds and wind chills. Some areas will see snow, sleet and ice the further south and east you go into the Carolinas. This is also a crippling ice storm event unfolding as some of the weather data is suggesting that there could be up to 1 inch of freezing rain or ice accumulations on trees and powerlines. This is a dangerous situation as trees and powerlines could come down significantly because of the weight of the ice on them. Be sure to be well prepared for this strong winter storm system and make sure you have flashlights, food and water in case the power goes out for extended periods of time. I will keep you updated on the latest weather information.
