CRIPPLING ICE STORM UNFOLDING FOR THE CAROLINAS ON SUNDAY.

A crippling ice storm event continues to unfold for the Carolinas, as we have been talking about that strong winter storm system that will move into the area on Sunday. Ice storm totals continue to increase as a prediction across areas of central and western North Carolina and the upstate of South Carolina. What that potentially means is that a large amount of ice accumulation from freezing rain, sleet or snow will accumulate on trees and power lines and house roof tops. Roads will be nearly impossible to travel on and major power outages are likely, especially in the upstate of South Carolina and the Piedmont and Western areas of North Carolina, including the Sandhills regions as well.

If you live in these areas, you are in a potentially dangerous and life-threatening situation with ice accumulations in the upstate of South Carolina and the Western and Piedmont Area of North Carolina exceeding 1.25 inches or more! Weight of ice this heavy on trees and power lines will bring down trees and power lines and cause major power disruptions to the area. Along with that potential stands the potential of crippling ice storm conditions because the winds will be strong up to 40 mph. Combine the winds with the weight of the ice on trees and power lines and you have a potentially life-threatening ice storm event unfolding. Here are the latest weather maps that I have on the maps below, compiling the weather data together. I will keep you updated. Please stay safe out there and have food, water and first aid kits and supplies in case of an emergency situation!
